April 2016  |  President's Letter

We are in Full Swing

The board and our committees have been hard at work planning our future programs for the balance of the year.
Reservations are now open for our largest event of the year, the 21st Annual Blue Ribbon Awards and Showcase, to take place on Wedneday, April 27th beginning at 5:00 pm at the Sheraton Hartford South Hotel in Rocky Hill. Honorees will be recognized in six categories with a "Blue Ribbon" given for the best overall project. Thanks to the co-chairs Colleen Sheridan and Jen Gosselin and their committee members for all of their efforts.

Our Professional Development committee has put together another excellent program "The Anatomy of the Deal: The New Britain Costco Wholesale Store", on Wednesday, May 4th at 5:00 pm. This is an evening event which includes a behind the scenes tour of Costco's latest Connecticut store followed by a panel discussion and networking reception at the Whinstone Tavern at the Stanley Golf Course. Hope to see many of you there.

Please also mark your calendar to join fellow members in Essex on June 23rd for an afternoon of fun activities followed by an expanded Annual Summer Social evening event featuring an excellent silent auction fundraiser.

March Program
Reducing Everyday Stress Topic of March's Lunch & Learn

Lisa Lewtan, health and self-care strategist and author of Busy, Stressed and Food Obsessed! was the speaker at the latest Lunch & Learn event, part of CREW CT's Professional Development Series. The crowd of members in attendance enjoyed Lisa's advice and tools on how to relieve everyday stress. As a former technology entrepreneur, Lisa brought much awareness to her remarks as well as practical tips for everyone to take better care of themselves.

Highlights of her talk included:

  • Connect your dots. Why am I so busy? What is real and what is manufactured?
  • Listen to your body. What is your body telling you? Tired? Hungry? Find peace, rest and tranquility
  • Slow down. Recognize that we are good and interesting enough. Live mindfully. Our bodies know they cannot overindulge.
