President’s Letter
Greetings to all and I hope you are enjoying this beautiful summer. It was great seeing so many of you at our Essex event a few weeks ago.

I wanted to share with you that during the early summer, we were pleased to receive a complimentary full page spread in The Hartford Business Journal recapping our Blue Ribbon Award Program. It gave us yet another opportunity to thank our sponsors and celebrate our many honorees.

This summer, our chapter also had the opportunity to support CREW Orlando after the tragic shootings there. I was pleased to join my fellow chapter presidents in sending our words of sympathy and caring. Our Orlando members expressed their thanks for the outpouring of support from chapters around the country.

Our July Thirsty Third Thursday, a joint event with CCIM, was a huge success with over 30 people on the rooftop at the Russian Lady in Hartford. It was a beautiful summer evening, perfect for networking and catching up with colleagues and friends.

Finally, our Fall events calendar is filling up quickly. Watch for upcoming announcements and be sure to add our programs to your calendar, including the national conference in October. I look forward to seeing you all then.

Essex Summer Social- Fun for All
This year’s Summer Social was a night to remember. It was a fabulous event with something for everyone. The traditional activities included nine holes at Fenwick Golf Course, sailing aboard the Schooner and of course, shopping along Main Street in the charming Village of Essex. The weather was delightful and we all enjoyed an exquisite dinner with ravishing views of the river.

Through the creativity of our planning committee, the event was brought to a new level with the addition of a silent auction and “wall of wine” raffle which added a whole new dimension and excitement to the evening. Some of the outstanding auction items included: a spa day, beautiful jewelry, a ski chalet rental, private chef service, theater and sporting event tickets and some marvelous gift baskets. Thanks to the generous donations and talents of our many members, friends, and guests, over $6,000 was raised to help offset stipends to be offered to national convention attendees.

Special Offer to CREW CT Members: A fun auction item at the Essex Social was made available through member Joann Fenty, whose son Brian is co-founder of TodayTix. The company is a highly rated ticketing app, available through iTunes, which offers last-minute theater tickets in NYC, Connecticut, and beyond. CREW CT members can download the app to see what's playing and then use code name JOANN for an extra $20 off your first purchase. New theaters and shows are popping up each week.

CREW National Convention & Marketplace October 19-22: New York Location Appealing to Connecticut Members
The New York Hilton Midtown will be home to the 2016 CREW Network Convention & Marketplace and already a number of our members from Connecticut are registered. Exciting keynote speakers, unparalleled networking and insider tours of innovative commercial spaces are just some of the benefits of attendance. Registration is open now and early registration is encouraged as special building tours are already filling up. Early registration rates are available through September 9.

Because of our proximity to the convention site, CREW CT has partnered with chapters in New York and New Jersey for an elegant networking and champagne soirée the evening of October 19. The gathering will be hosted at the luxurious Penthouse of the Quin Hotel sponsored by Unity Construction. This is an exclusive event and reservations are limited. Thanks to Katie Pelczar of UBS and her committee for coordinating our convention involvement.

Jenna Bennetti, CPA of Whittlesey & Hadley, attended her first national convention last year and in an interview, reflected on her experience. “The people I met made my experience unforgettable. There were multiple formal and informal opportunities to socialize at the convention, including planned excursions, networking dinners, and even morning walks.”

Jenna continued, “What I enjoyed most was the opportunity to both meet and get to know other CREW CT members including our legacy members who have been with CREW for years, to those most active with the Board, and other newer members like myself. My firm was very supportive and loved the idea that I was putting myself out there to develop my networking skills and to grow relationships with the other people from our chapter.”

CREW CT Offers Stipends to Convention Attendees
Applications will soon be available for stipends of $750 to use towards registration at the national convention. Stipends will be available only to CREW CT members; watch for the announcement and application in early August.

Welcome New Members
We are pleased to welcome our newest members: Cherie Lawton of Phase Zero and Edward Engberg of Whittlesey & Hadley, P.C.
