January 2016  |  President's Letter

Greetings for 2016

CREW CT's mission is a great reminder about the purpose and reason we dedicate ourselves to this exceptional organization:
Founded in 1987, CREW CT - The Real Estate Exchange is an organization dedicated to supporting and advancing the achievements of women in commercial real estate. It provides a networking, social and educational forum for commercial real estate professionals of every related field and discipline. It is the only commercial real estate organization in Connecticut where a cross section of professionals can network directly with other industry professionals.

Jennifer Marks PhotoJennifer Marks, President

As a CREW member since 2013 and your new President for 2016, I've seen firsthand the value CREW offers to each of us. The networking, relationship building, access to smart & impressive women and our robust programming has allowed our organization to grow even stronger. I am committed to growing the value of our organization to its members by providing greater opportunities for professional growth and business development.

Our 2016 Events Calendar is starting out strong with several exciting programs in the works. We are kicking off the year with our first public forum, a panel discussion, "From Hartford to Enfield: What Will the Next Project Be?" In April, we will once again showcase the myriad of quality projects throughout the state with our 21st annual Blue Ribbon Awards, promising to be a great opportunity for recognizing our successes in commercial real estate last year. Look for forthcoming announcements regarding our Professional Development series as well as the continuation of our Third Thirsty Thursday events, an informal networking opportunity in and around the Hartford area each month.

CREW Careers
Our CREW Careers committee is building on the resounding success of our 2015 events and is in the process of planning another career day event at the Colt Building, with several schools from the City of Hartford participating, as well as continuing to support the UCONN Center for Real Estate with a joint program planned in the first half of this year. Please let anyone on CREW Careers or the CREW CT Board of Directors know if you would like to sponsor, volunteer or just attend the next CREW Careers Day.

Member Communications & Public Relations
A cornerstone of our organization's growth strategy is our renewed focus on member interaction and communications and organizational public relations. Under the leadership of Carolyn Bligh and her committee, we will be accelerating communications among our members in a number of ways. We will be revamping our periodic newsletter to become a more useful tool for our members. The new format promises to provide a more virtual forum for sharing member news, member-to-member business successes, upcoming events and industry highlights. We want to thank Carolyn for donating her graphic design skills for the new format.

We have additionally retained the services of marketing consultant, Anne L. Elvgren, to assist with ongoing public relations efforts. Anne is a former marketing director at JCJ Architects and former chief marketing officer at Blum Shapiro and Robinson Cole, both of whom have significant real estate industry related practices. Anne will be the "go-to" person to receive your announcements and information for inclusion in our newsletter. Please share all of the good news about yourself and your company, including photos, and ask your marketing director to include Anne on any relevant press releases. She can be reached at: (860) 677-5441 or Look for CREW CT "in the news" and on social media.

CREW National Convention
Finally, we are excited that this year, CREW Network will be hosting the national convention in New York City! If you have not had a chance to attend a CREW Network convention, this is your chance. Mark your calendars for October 19-22 and plan on joining your Board and fellow members at the conference. Get ready to expand your business network, make new connections, get inspired and have fun. Our Board has formed an ad-hoc committee to plan on how we at CREW CT can make a splash and get as many of our members to Convention this year.

In Closing...
I am proud to serve as President of our amazing organization this year and encourage all of our members to get involved and participate, serve on committees and support the programs, activities and efforts of CREW CT. In addition, I sincerely thank all of our Sponsors, Board chairs, and members for their generosity and support in making this an outstanding year for CREW CT! You can contact me or catch me at our events and functions. I would love to hear from you with suggestions and comments.
