President’s Letter

Happy Fall to all. We have been pleased with the turnouts at our programs in recent months and hope you will enjoy the informative recap of our September 7 program featuring State of Connecticut DECD Commissioner Catherine Smith and City of Hartford Planning and Zoning chair, Sara Bronin.

Over 20 of your fellow CREW CT members will be attending the national conference this month. We also took advantage of our proximity to New York to schedule a cocktail reception between the New York City, New Jersey, and Connecticut chapters. We look forward to sharing great information and contacts with you upon our return.

And, finally, a recent discussion among a group of members got us thinking about the value of CREW CT to your professional and personal life. Please see the informative article below with tips from current members. As always, your board members are available to assist in guiding you on how to get as involved as your schedule allows.

Making the Most of Your CREW CT Membership

A few thoughts from members include:

  • “Little did I know when I joined CREW CT that I would make such great business connections. I have appreciated the leads I have gotten, the business intelligence I have picked up, and the friendships I have made in the real estate community.”
  • “Involvement in CREW exceeded my expectations. I have gotten to know people I would not otherwise have met in my day-to-day work. My company has appreciated and encouraged my involvement.”
  • “I have really enjoyed supporting the mission of crew to promote women in real estate.”
  • “One of my favorite programs is Crew Careers where we mentor high school age girls about the real estate profession.”
  • One long-time member said that the organization has meant different things to her at different times in her career. “I joined so that I could be as up-to-date as possible about the marketplace by regular interactions with industry leaders. Now, it is my turn to give back to the organization and mentor our younger members. I am always happy to have coffee or lunch with anyone who asks. I have also had the opportunity to identify talent for my company from contacts I have made at CREW.”

September Program Highlights Positive State of Connecticut and City of Hartford Developments
CREW CT members and guests were treated to another excellent program on September 7 when Catherine Smith, State of Connecticut Commissioner of the Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) and Sara Bronin, Hartford’s City Planning and Zoning Chair, shared their thoughts on “Constructing a Future for Connecticut.” Our president, Jennifer Marks, principal of the BL Companies, acted as moderator. Together, Bronin and Smith underscored the strengths of Hartford and Connecticut in the competition for economic growth and development and both presenters acknowledged the important role that CREW CT members play in economic development.
