Dear Members,

As 2018 comes to its end, I want to take a moment to thank all the CREW board members who have contributed to make 2018 a successful and eventful year. Our committee chairs did an outstanding job organizing, planning and implementing a variety of fabulous programs that offered our members and guests countless opportunities to network and learn. I could not have succeeded as this year’s president without their tireless efforts, creativity, and hard work. My sincere thanks go to each and every board member who contributed to CREW CT. As I look back on the year, I am amazed at how many wonderful events we held. Some (but not all) of the events in 2018 included:

  • CTfastrack Panel Discussion: a panel of experts discussed how the bus lane creation influenced development along the line.
  • How New Technology Influences Apartment Development: an expert panel discussed the construction changes that technology has caused in multi-family buildings.
  • Blue Ribbon Awards: our annual event, which grows bigger every year, included more entries and awards for the best commercial development projects of the prior year.
  • Development around the Bushnell: an expert panel discussed future development plans in the emerging Hartford neighborhood.
  • Mug Shots and Martinis: an event to network and update professional headshots for all those press releases sure to be required for our members’ new career announcements in 2019.
  • The Wellness Series: a mini-series designed to enhance the financial and physical wellness of our members.
  • New and Prospective Member Lunches: where new and prospective members connected with CREW veterans to learn about the benefits of CREW membership.
  • Annual Essex Outing: a fun, members-only event for CREW members to get together and enjoy a relaxed day at the Essex Yacht Club with golf, sailing, and dinner. (Occasionally we need to stop and smell the roses!)

I could go on, as we held many more great programs, but I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge the dedicated board members whose hard work and diligence made my job as president in 2018 easier and so very productive! So my heartfelt thanks go out to:

  • Lisa Lugauskas – President Elect – who was my sounding board and back up when I needed help.  And who could forget her “Quiz Show” at Essex!
  • Jennifer Marks – Secretary – who kept us on track with minutes of our meetings and was my personal historian whenever I stumbled on the past practices and protocol of CREW CT.
  • Melissa Ferucci – Treasurer – who always was there to provide the financial accounting, process expenses, pay vendors, and respond to the never ending string of questions posed while planning the myriad programs CREW CT held.
  • Courtney Hendricson – Past President and Sponsorship Chair – who worked tirelessly in this vital role to encourage our annual sponsors and event sponsors to continue their financial support of CREW CT and our programs. The generosity of our sponsors allows us to continue to offer informative events to CREW members and the public.
  • Rita Joy and Andrea Gomes – Program Committee Co-Chairs – the unsung heroes of “event planning” who imagined, implemented and managed the complicated arrangements for many of our biggest programs. Planning breakfast for 130 guests is no small accomplishment!
  • Jenna Bennetti and Nikki WitaszekMembership Co-Chairs – who inspired new members to join CREW, encouraged past members to renew and planned lunches and meeting to introduce new members to the benefits of the CREW network.
  • Kathy Cyr and Cherie LawtonProfessional Development Co-chairs – who planned and organized the wellness series to encourage CREW members to take stock of the things in our lives that impact our health and wellbeing, and planned our fun “Mug Shots and Martinis” night, which is sure to be a repeated CREW CT event!
  • Patrick Hulton and Tanya CutoloCREW Careers Co-Chairs – who arranged for a group of CREW members in various commercial real estate disciplines to meet with UCONN students to explain the “Anatomy of a Deal”. The students received a taste of real life experiences from CREW members who are engaged in careers in which the students aspire to enter, and got to ask so many questions about real life real estate transactions in a casual setting.
  • Megan ClearyCommunications Chair – who was always there to create our brochures, programs, name tags, stationary, and a hundred other things that always came up at the last minute. A special shout out goes to her work on the Blue Ribbon Brochure, an epic endeavor to create this multi-page book of projects entered for one of the awards we present!
  • Monica Avery – Delegate – who attended the National Convention and other far flung meetings to keep us abreast of all the benefits the entire CREW network provides for its 10,000 members. She diligently worked to encourage all CREW CT members to contribute to the CREW Foundation, which notably, among other things, provides annual $5,000 academic scholarships to college students studying for careers in the various commercial real estate fields.
  • Lisa Chapman and Kelsey Rath – Blue Ribbon Co-Chairs – who ran our most important annual CREW CT event that honors the best development projects in the prior year.  Our 2018 Blue Ribbon Event was the biggest and best one we have ever produced and it is sure to set the standard for future events.

And, as I pass the baton to Lisa Lugauskas, our incoming 2019 President, I want to encourage all our members to renew your membership and get involved by joining a committee or volunteering for a board position in the future.

While we all work hard to provide interesting and fun events for members and the public, the rewards of working with this talented and dedicated group of professionals makes it all worthwhile.  The friendships and relationships created through CREW CT are not only lasting, but great for personal career enhancement.

I wish you all a joyous holiday season and look forward to a healthy and prosperous 2019! It was my honor to serve as the 2018 President of CREW CT.

Sincerely,
Colleen
