Greetings from the Guest Bedroom/Dog Sunroom/Home Office!
On behalf of CREW Connecticut, I extend a warm hello and thanks for reading this, our first newsletter for 2021! In this issue we will introduce your Board members, recap the CREW Network Winter Summit, and preview programming for 2021. Read on and enjoy!
2021 Board - At the end of this newsletter is a list of your 2021 Board members. Please do not hesitate to reach out to any one of us with any interests, questions or concerns. We are a diverse group of CRE enthusiasts, with a wide assortment of pets from a cat named Buddha (Melissa Roy), to seven loving chickens (Stephani Hayes), to a baby turtle (Josephine Aberle), and to a COVID puppy named Millie (Erin Cabelus). As for me, I am honored to be your President for 2021; I follow a tough act - Melissa Ferrucci (Past President and all around amazing person), and have a fabulous partner-in-crime with Andrea Gomes (President-Elect). A few personal tidbits: a have a COVID adopted dog named Elvis (hound dog, of course); I used to be a 7/8 grade teacher in Chicago; I am a self-proclaimed Beatles guru and a devotee of all things Chris Cornell.
Winter Summit - This virtual event was held Feb 11-12. In addition to the Network council meeting, sessions focused on chapter dynamics, from mentoring to sponsorship to programming. As you may be aware, the Network continues its commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and attendees could attend small group sessions to discuss ways to incorporate more DEI initiatives in their local chapters. The keynote session focused on “Navigating Crucial Conversations”, let by Karen Crudow, an international leadership coach and founder of Compass International. CREW CT attendees included Janet Wheeler (Delegate), Andrea Gomes (Delegate and President-Elect) and Kate Mylod (President).
2021 Programming - Our Programs and Professional Development chairs and committees are well into planning a variety of events for 2021. As winter turns to spring, we will continue with virtual events - our Coffee and Conversation morning drop ins have been quite popular with members and non-members alike and will continue on a monthly basis. We are also working on another potential virtual tour (Parkville was such a big hit last year!), as well as a cross-pollination event or two with our sister networking organizations, such as SIOR. As the weather warms and the vaccines become more readily available, we are hopeful for a number of hybrid virtual/in-person events this summer into the fall, including our signature Blue Ribbon event, a return to Essex (fingers crossed!) and our annual members-only fall dinner. If you have any suggestions for events or other programming, please reach out to any Board member. One “silver lining” of our virtual landscape is that CREW members can access programming across chapters - if you haven’t done so, check out CREW Boston or, my personal favorite, CREW Seattle (go Seahawks!), or any other chapter (CREW UK, perhaps?) to see what keeps them busy and what you can “zoom” into. As an international networking organization, this virtual flattening makes so much more available to so many more of us.
That’s it for now. Until next time, picture yourself in a boat on a river…
